(ECNS) -- Shenzhen in China's Guangdong Province has initiated the country's largest-scale vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology test, achieving bidirectional charging capabilities between new energy vehicles and the power grid.
The project involves over 760 charging stations and more than 17,000 vehicles across the city.
The test aims at scaling V2G technology to store energy for the grid during low-demand periods while discharging reversely during peak hours to stabilize urban power supply.
In 2024, Shenzhen constructed 1,030 ultra-fast charging stations and another 100 charging hubs, which integrate charging, storage, and distribution of electricity into a unified power supply system. Meanwhile, the city has established 134,000 new charging posts, totaling charging posts to 420,000.
It has achieved a "1-kilometer charging circle" in downtown areas to make charging easily accessible.
